Acuity Counseling Therapist Bio

Harry: The Acuity Therapy Dog

Harry, an eight year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi, is a therapy dog certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI).

Earlier in life he had a short career as a show dog, but quickly realized the show life just wasn’t for him—and decided his talents were best used to help others as he joined the Acuity Counseling team. Harry’s an integral part of the practice—fostering connection, trust, and relationships.

In his free time, Harry is an avid ball-chasing enthusiast, connoisseur of fine dog treats, and always makes time for a good belly rub.

If you’d like to have Harry included within your session, please send an invite through Kristin.

Kristin Zarrello, MS, LMHCA, CDP, NCC

Individual and Addiction Therapist

Kristin enjoys working with a variety of clients and welcomes all individuals who are in search of hope and healing.  Life can be challenging and we can lose our way at times, however, the biggest challenges can also create the most growth. When we are feeling lost and uncertain, we have the opportunity to discover the most about ourselves and the depths of what we can rise from.

Working With Individuals

Kristin’s work with individuals centers around her belief in the healing power of relationship and connection.  For some, the therapeutic relationship may be the first in which they are able to trust and feel safe enough to risk vulnerability. Kristin considers it a privilege to work alongside others as they journey through the process of discovery and growth.  It is her hope to offer support, compassion, and the tools necessary for her clients to gain insight, clarity, and joy in their lives.

Addiction and Recovery

Kristin has over 6 years of experience working with individuals struggling with substance use and addiction.  She is a certified Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) in the state of Washington.  Kristin takes a harm reduction approach to recovery and believes in a holistic healing process of the mind, body, and spirit.  She acknowledges the many paths and resources available leading to recovery, all with the unifying thread that the road to recovery is not one to be traveled alone.

Unpartnered/Self-partnered Individuals

Are you someone who is, either by choice or by chance, living your life unpartnered?  We do not all follow society’s stereotypically linear path of what life “should” look like.  As joyous and fulfilling as single life can be, struggles with loneliness, security, financial stress, or internal/ external pressures can get the best of us.  Kristin believes that no matter what your life looks like, it is worth celebrating.  If you would like to reframe your thinking around living life unpartnered and become confident and happy in your temporary or lasting self-partnership, Kristin is here to help.  Instead of spending time searching for “the one”, you can build community and appreciate “the ones” around you who love and support you as you are.

How I Can Help

Kristin practices from a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to therapy. At the heart of her therapeutic practice are the firmly held values of unconditional positive regard, acceptance, and caring towards her clients.  Depending on the individual’s need, Kristin integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities including mindfulness practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and attachment-based therapy.  Her main priority is offering a safe, judgment-free space to be seen and heard for who you authentically are. Kristin believes it is essential to allow ourselves to be human in all its imperfection, and to treat each other with loving-kindness and respect, as it is our connection with each other that offers the most healing.
