Acuity Counseling Therapist Bio
Joanne Blum, MS, LMHC, NCC
Joanne enjoys helping adults struggling with major life changes and role transitions. She understands that life’s twists and turns can be challenging, and it takes courage to reach out to a stranger for support. Joanne offers you a safe, non-judgmental space to explore current struggles, express what causes you pain, expand your awareness of internal and external obstacles, and create pathways towards deep and lasting change. She believes that counseling isn’t just about helping you feel better; it’s about helping you live better.
Working with Individual Adults
Do you feel “stuck” and notice a loss of vitality, satisfaction, or meaning in your life? That “stuckness” may come in the form of a sense of emptiness or depression; fear or panic when facing change; chronic self-criticism; relationship difficulties; painful experiences; or a more general life dissatisfaction. Joanne believes that her work isn’t about fixing anything that’s broken, but rather helping you get “unstuck” by reorienting you to what is most important to you and helping you develop the skills needed to create and live a life of integrity, purpose, and meaning—even when the inevitable pain of life visits you.
Although caring for a loved one is a uniquely rewarding experience, family members often grow overwhelmed by the physical and emotional toll of their responsibilities. Joanne can provide support and guidance to help you cope with common caregiver issues such as anger and frustration; anxiety and fear; grief and sadness; guilt and shame; isolation and loneliness; and depression.
Counseling for Women
Are you experiencing a difficult transition in your life? Are you trying to explore your identity and understand your purpose? Women face unique challenges in their lifespan that can result in low self-worth and feelings of inadequacy. Joanne strives to create a unique and collaborative relationship with you, so you can forge a new path towards the kind of life you want to live.
How I Can Help
Joanne strongly believes in counseling the person, not their diagnosis. With this in mind, she takes an integrative approach using Person-Centered Therapy with a specialization in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy. Joanne is licensed in WA as a mental health counselor and recognized as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
