Katelyn Yam,
MAED, LMHC, NCC
Individual and Trauma Therapist
Katelyn’s work with individuals centers around mindfulness. Doing the most with what is in our control and releasing obligation from what is not. Emphasizing effectiveness and nonjudgement to embrace the self holistically while allowing space for growth and evolution through seasons of change. She believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship and the sacred space that is built through mutual trust and effort.
Working with Individuals
Feeling stuck? Caught between multiple thoughts, emotions, values? Do you experience emotions as overwhelming or out of control? Do you feel trapped by judgements or the expectations of others? Katelyn knows that it is challenging to walk through the world as a highly sensitive person. She can help you sort through and evaluate what matters most to you and discover how-to live in alignment with your own inner wisdom, set and maintain healthy boundaries, cope with stress and crisis, and plan ahead to decrease the likelihood of suffering in the future.
Skills Training
Have you ever wished that there was a class in school for managing difficult emotions or experiences? Or how navigate relationships and foster compassion communication with others? Katelyn understands that no matter what we do in our lives with regards to careers or professional endeavors, there will always be stressors, challenging emotions, crises, aspects of reality we don’t like or agree with, and other people that we have to interact with both professionally and personally. She can support you in developing and expanding your social/emotional toolbox for coping with the ups and downs of life.
How I Can Help
Katelyn takes a multi-faceted approach, supporting clients address challenges with acceptance and change. Using DBT informed skills training to increase abilities to cope with present triggers and EMDR to reprocess traumatic memories that are causing disruptions to daily life. She also uses strategies from different Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance based, Narrative and Internal Family Systems Therapies. She believes in hope, social justice, empowerment, resilience, respect and accountability.
