Abby Tomlinson, MA, LMFTA

Individual and Relationship Therapist

Abby enjoys working with young adults, college students, and couples who are exploring the landscape of building a life together. Abby believes that every individual and couple is capable of achieving their goals, dreams, and living the life they desire. Sometimes, you just need some help getting started and navigating obstacles caused by self-doubt and fear of change. Abby believes that in order to create positive change, change must first occur within yourself. This type of change requires self-acceptance and loving yourself for who you are. She has a passion for helping people see the best in themselves and in those around them. Abby believes that every person is worthy of love, acceptance, and being truly heard.

Working with Individuals
Being a young adult is a phase of life that is full of major life transitions, identity development, and change. These changes and transitions can often be hard to navigate. This is a time in life where anxiety and depression can be highly present due to the transitions and changes. Abby can help you build coping skills, emotional tolerance, distress tolerance, and identify your own capabilities to achieve your goals and dreams. Abby has experience working with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, self-identity, and academic struggles. Anxiety and depression have a way of telling people, particularly young adults that they are not worth the life they seek. Abby’s aim is to help clients recognize negative thoughts as the lies that they are, in order to help individuals realize their worth and to achieve goals.

Working with Couples
One of the biggest transitions young adult’s face is developing relationships after leaving home. With these connections comes the joys and struggles of combining multiple lives, dreams, hopes, and families into one relationship. Abby enjoys helping couples navigate these transitions and to develop a solid foundation for the relationship to grow. Abby has experience utilizing skills to help couples navigate through obstacles, issues, and differences, as well as build communication skills to achieve the relationship they desire.

How I can help
Abby takes an integrative approach with therapy, combining multiple evidence based practices. She will guide you to help develop your adult identity and self worth. Abby will support you while you gain skills to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to navigate obstacles in order to build the life and future that you desire.
