Acuity Counseling Therapist Bio

Beth Sanders, MA, LMHC

Individual and Couples Therapist

Beth enjoys working with individuals and couples in counseling with the intention to help you reach your full potential.  Circumstances and challenges can leave you feeling disconnected from who you are and where you want to go in your life. Beth can help you reconnect to your values, re-center around your personal goals and find the direction you’ve been lacking.

Working with Individuals
When faced with challenges such as depression, anxiety and trauma, it’s not uncommon to fall into patterns of negative thinking and problematic behaviors. In individual counseling, Beth will help empower you through difficult situations and symptoms and teach you tangible skills which you can put into use immediately.

Working with Couples
Romantic relationships start based on an intense emotional connection. We feel drawn to our partner and an attraction that cannot be denied or ignored. Sometimes the intensity that draws you and your partner together can shift into intensity of conflict, poor communication and intense hurt. By finding more effective ways to express your emotions and understand each other, you can turn the tide of negative interactions back towards the love and connection you once had.

Substance Use & Addiction
We all have the urge to blow off steam, but sometimes the ways we choose to do this aren’t the healthiest or most beneficial. You never thought you’d be the person to be struggling with alcohol or drugs, it was a way to relieve the stress of the day but it’s getting out of hand. It’s important to you to figure out a way to cope with stress without drugs or alcohol and you’re ready to start living life without substances.

How I Can Help
Beth takes an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to guide you on the path towards your better life. She believes when you help the person, not society’s label or their diagnosis, you create the opportunity to holistic change.

In couples counseling, Beth utilizes a combination of Gottman Couples method and Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you reconnect with your partner and express the underlying concerns that keep resurfacing within your conflicts.

Areas of Specialization

  • Individual concerns of anxiety, depression, trauma (including PTSD) and work stress
  • Couples concerns of communication skills, conflict resolution and bridging the gap between partners
  • Substance Use and Addiction
